#175. or, The Dog Had a Birthday! (.....but as it turns out, this post isn't about that)

From the files of,  THINGS THAT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS FARMING, THAT I INTENDED TO WRITE ABOUT, BUT INSTEAD GOT TOSSED TO THE WAYSIDE, WHILE I WAS TRACTORING MY ASS OFF........

Just to explain that. I have a small, but what I think is a fairly decent list of topics, that I had written down in my notebook over the summer. Some of them were relevant to specific situations, but as the situations passed by, I deemed those topics to be "out of date." However, seeing as I'm far from blessed with wonderful writing material on regularly scheduled intervals, and part of the bargain of you guys continuing to stop here to read what flows forth from my stagnant brain, (that is assuming you're still there? Hello...is this thing on?) as long as I keep writing, I'm going to be dipping into the well, as it were.

I had intended come up with some sort of fancy acronym for, THINGS THAT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS FARMING, THAT I INTENDED TO WRITE ABOUT, BUT INSTEAD GOT TOSSED TO THE WAYSIDE, WHILE I WAS TRACTORING MY ASS OFF........, so you wouldn't be reading a post, and thinking, "What the hell is he talking about something that happened 2 months ago for?" But that seems a little ridiculous at this point. And nobody's even going to know what TTHWIWF,TIITWA,BIGTTTW,WIWTMAO means anyways, not to mention, it's rather unwieldy. So henceforth, if you see a post that begins with, SHIT THAT HATH COME BEFORE!, You will know it's just an old topic, and I'm not really trying to pull the wool over your eyes or anything. I promise!

Back to the task at hand..........

You know, it just occurred to me, that it took 3 fairly significant paragraphs to set this whole thing up. And because the dog's birthday post, that is actually old news, is fairly significant and is probably going to include not less that 3 photos and a video, that if I begin it now, this whole thing is going to explode into a 3500 word nightmare, that I have no hope of holding you all through to the end.

  Geeez.....what do I do now?

Um......OK! In an effort to get this train back on the tracks, here's what's going to happen.

This is no longer the dog's birthday post. That will happen in post #176. I'm just going to ramble a bit here to try to finish this thing off, and hopefully not lose any followers and get us all out the other side.

Coming up, over the next few posts, you can expect to hear about something interesting that happened during vacation with Young Son.

Also, I have a post about urinals. That's right, urinals. I had that one all planned out in my head, but then somebody else I follow did a urinal post, and had to mothball it so as not to break some unwritten blogger code of ethics. (there's such a thing, isn't there?)

There's the post about an upcoming winter vacation we booked.

And, I still have that post almost completely written about football, Jesus, and riding the light rail transit system.

So that's just a few. I apologize for this post. I really was going to write about the dog when I sat down here. Sometimes things just go sideways.

.........more often than not if you're me.

  1. Wonderful! I keep an ongoing list of topics too, yet often when I go back I can't even recall what I wanted to say about it! Senility is setting in! :-) Looking forward to posts about birthday dogs, urinals, and vacation plans!

    1. Hey J2S!

I'm certain that's why I've had to start taking down better notes. Little snippets of thoughts were just making me scratch my head when I went back to them. :)

  2. Dear Ken, friend o' mine,
This post describes my method nearly to a tee. I do the same thing - keep lists of post ideas, although I've gotten sloppy about it so I jot them on scraps or miscellaneous steno pads that get shuffled and forgotten. I stumble across the posts and respond in one of two ways, "Wha? What was that about, anyway?" or "Meh. I don't even feel an eensy bit moved by that now. No inspiration." or "That's old! Who would care, anyway?" Wait - that's three.....anyway, these days, I am lacking time AND motivation. Just can't seem to find the umph to get there at all and write anything. So maybe for a while, I'll just come around here and bug you with comments...:) How's that?

I can't wait to hear more about all your posts/ideas!!! Keep 'em comin'!

    1. Hello, my friend!

I have a notebook now, specifically for blog ideas. It fits in my pocket and I have this dream about it eventually looking like the tattered, full of clippings, tied together with a string, notebook Sean Connery had as Indy's dad in The Last Crusade.

I'm thinking of a post on my notebook of post ideas.

If I don't write them out in a way that I can clearly figure out what was going on in my head, I'm lost when I get back to them.

I know exactly what you mean about time and motivation! Feel free to fill my comments section with chattiness, and I'll do my best to keep up.

      You're always welcome here! :)

    1. I'm learning, out of order isn't all that important here. Keep'em coming! :)

  4. Your upcoming topics sound interesting! I'm looking forward to reading them. The football, Jesus and LRT one intrigues me in particular, I'm not sure why? Smooches to the birthday dog.

You sure you want to smooch the dog? He's pretty drooly! :)

  5. It must be hard to take notes when your muse drops in while you're driving your tractor.

Nevertheless, looking forward to the birthday post. Doggy stories are never old news.

    1. Hi Susanne!

There are times, when having my muse drop in on me in the tractor isn't so bad. I've written entire posts while the GPS steers. Other times, it's not so convenient. :)

    1. Thank you, McGuffy Ann.

I sure that I'm my hardest critic. I nearly deleted this whole thing because it wasn't what I was going to write when I sat down.

  7. I write about it anyway and stick it up. I mean how are you all gonna know that happened last month anyway? :)

    1. Hey Holly!

I think you might be right. Even if some of the stuff I do is sequential, it probably doesn't matter to anyone but me.

  8. THAT is what I call stream of consciousness!

This had me rolling. Probably more than if you'd figured out what you were writing about!

    1. Thank you, Katy.

I shall try, to let this sort of thing happen more often. The truth is, I sort of cringed when I hit the publish button on this one. I guess you never know? :)

  9. I write about stuff from a month ago and say something like, "Not long ago" so it's not really a lie. ha ha My daughter says my concept of time is all warped anyway.

  11. I highly approve of the dog's birthday post being a separate post at this point, but I am sure you are not surprised to hear that!

I do the same, write things down, but then later feel they are out of date and I don't write them. But really, if it's a good idea, it's a good idea, regardless of when. So I think in December, you might just hear about my summer camp I attended :)

I am also curious about that urinal post. I've always been curious about urinals in general, because they just seem sort of barbaric to me. Glad my bits necessitate some privacy!
