#73. or, Friday odds and ends

Truthfully, i had a couple ideas in my head but Thursday was pretty hectic and i hadn't really planed on posting anything for today. It's 12:40 A.M., i'm tired, and i'd like to go to bed, except i'm waiting for a cow to calf, nothing was on TV, (why does that not surprise me?) so i thought i needed to say a couple things.

This has been an exceptional blogging week for me. Not that anything that i've written has been so wonderful but there's been some new developments for me happening here. First, new followers! (YAY!) I would like to say names here, but i don't want my originals to feel like "old" followers. Either way, all followers are grand. I'm at 17 now, i'm pretty happy about that.

Next, i have comments now. I've always gotten comments on my facebook page when i shared the link but now, i have discussions happening on my blog post as well. I like that. I try to be engaging and i like it when new people show up and throw in their two cents. I'm pretty sure this is happening because i've also started to leave a few comments on other blogs.

I was a little hesitant to start leaving comments. Mostly i was worried that my meager offering wasn't going to be worthy of some of the wonderful stuff out there that i've been reading. I think i have to thank Pish Posh for getting my feet wet in this department. She was more than welcoming of my comments and always has an interesting reply. If you have time, you should check her blog out.

Also, i was "tagged" twice. That's when another blogger puts a link to your blog into one of their posts. First, by Workingdan, when we talked about smoking meat, then Thursday by Brett at The Transformed Non-Conformist, wanting me to do an 11 questions quiz. I considered trying to squeeze it in for today's post, but i didn't get to see it until after supper yesterday and i thought i needed more time to give it an honest effort. I'm going to try for Monday.

Another thing that i noticed yesterday when i was reading one of the two posts, Bozo posted, i discovered that right there, on the right hand column of her reading list, there i am! As far as i know, that's the first time someone has me out in the open on their home page! That's pretty exciting news! (i might have pee'd a little bit, i was so excited!)

..........anyways, i'm quite happy about this week in my blogging adventure, i hope you all stay around and that i don't run out of ideas.

...........it's 1:30 A.M. and it's raining, i have to get all dressed up, grab my big-assed flashlight and go check that cow. I hope she's finished and all is well, i'm getting tired.

  1. Heads up! You've just been tagged a third time ;-)

I was nicely surprised to see a new post from you out on twitter because I thought you would be sleeping nicely right now. Since most of the blogs I follow are in the States - I usually have to wait until evening for something new to read. This was a nice treat!

I'm so happy to hear that the blogging week as been good for you - it makes such a difference when people leave feedback! In fact, I don't think I could keep going without interaction from you all. Just wouldn't be fun.

Hope everything sorts out with that calf and that you get to go to bed soon!

    2. I do, it was ....nice. :)

Cow and calf are doing fine. I had to bring her in off the field to help her out. The good news, as soon as i got her out of the weather, it stopped raining. Good timing.

  2. First - I went through the same thing about commenting. I didn't want to leave a comment that was just...bleh. I would only comment if I had something good to say. But once I started commenting, I gained a bunch of followers. Which, really, is so cool and makes me giggle like the little girl I still want to be (because really who doesn't want to return to their childhood?).

Second - you are a pretty kick-ass blogger, if I do say so. I really enjoy your posts. You are amusing, thoughtful and thought provoking. All good things to be.

Third - I totally want to be a rancher's wife. Why? Why? Why won't my husband buy me a homestead so I can say awesome things like, "I'm waiting for a cow to calf." Holy Crap! I want to do that! Do you sit in the field with her, stroking her head telling her to push? Because that's what I imagine. I would totally be good at that. OMG! Like Cow Midwives! It could be my new career calling!!

    1. Umm...just to clarify, I wasn't proposing. I'm already married...although if polygamy worked both ways I would totally have a bunch of husbands!

    2. First- It IS cool to gain commenters and followers. Like out of nowhere, HeatherL pops up and says things that makes me blush. Thank you. :)
      Second- ......still blushing
Third- I wouldn't mind if you imagined that, truthfully though, last night was 2 hours or so of slogging through the mud in the rain, trying to chase a cow into the barn, followed by another hour of straightening out a calf then attaching what is in essence a jack to her backside to hoist the calf out. Sorry, i wish it was a nicer thing. Although, i did play the radio while i was working with her in the barn, maybe i should get some whale sounds or something to lighten the mood? Also, if i was your polygamous husband, i would be sure to use terms like "out in the back 40." and "i'm headed out to till the land." just for you. :)

  3. One of the most exciting things about blogging is making new friends! It's fun to see your readership grow, and I think most of us are amazed that anyone would find what we have to say interesting enough to stick around! Everyone loves comments on what they write, it doesn't have to be a brilliant response, just enough to let the writer know you've stopped by to read. If you switch to the embedded comment format, you can respond to the comments folks leave right below their comment instead of at the end of the list, and that really helps with dialog and feedback. I'm totally enjoying what I've been reading here, and I'll for sure be back for more. Hope the new calf arrived safely, and you managed to get a little sleep before daybreak!

    1. It still amazes me that people keep coming back. I don't think i'm all that engaging in person, but i have found that doing this is helping me to not be as shy. Thanks for that information about the embedded comments, i'll look for that.

Cow and calf are fine, got a little sleep, and thanks for coming back. :)

  4. By the way, I also like the way you number and name your posts, clever! Wish I'd have thought of that and started way back when I began my intial blog years ago. I have no idea how many I've actually written and posted in the last five years, but I sure love doing it. Blogging is a great way to visit with people from the comforts of home!

    1. that happened quite by accident. My origional intention was to just have the numbers. After #1 i realized that was patheticialy uninteresting,so i added a title as well, it just stuck? :)

  5. It is amazing when the people start to show up. I wrote for about a year and only had maybe 15 people visiting and I knew half of them personally. Then suddenly, my stats jumped five fold over night, the comments started coming in and I started gaining followers. It feels good when you know it's not just your mom reading your stuff.

Keep writing. It's a fun read.

  7. Blogging gets so much better once you start interacting with other bloggers! There are blogs that I really enjoy, but have no interaction with the blogger. And if that person stopped blogging altogether, I'd just shrug and forget about them. But the people I interact with...I notice when they don't update, and I wonder, and I'm happy to see their posts in my reader. So welcome to the wonderful world of comments! :) (I don't follow anyone, though. I'm either old-school using bookmarks, or else I use bloglovin, depending on how often the blog updates.)

    1. I used the bookmarks as well. I just found i was spending too much time going through that list to see any new posts. It was less time consuming for me to use the reading list and have the new ones just show up.I still use the bookmarks to follow someone new that i find for a bit to see if i like them enough to follow them full time. I hope that's not too creepy?

And yes, i enjoy the interaction too. :)

  8. Yay for comments and followers! I know exactly how you feel. I think I blogged for months before I ever got a comment. Even though I get them regularly now, I still get crazy giddy every time someone leaves one. Makes me whole day. Don't feel shy about leaving comments. The blogging community is so much fun when you start to interact. Hope your cow's ok.

Thank you for following me as well. It is quite exciting. It's gotten so much more so the last few days. I have to keep checking back often to make sure i don't miss any. :)

  9. You should never be afraid your comments are meager or won't be worthy, Ken. Just be you. Any blogger worth their salt will appreciate hearing from you. If they aren’t, then they’re not worth your time. No blogger is any better or more special than another. We’re all just people hoping to be appreciated a little bit. :)

I think most bloggers are just tickled pink to get comments, even if it's just a quick hello. I’m beyond thrilled when people comment, letting me know something I did made them laugh or smile. What a rush!

I’m here commenting to let you know that I enjoy your blog, Ken, and that I, The Great and Powerful Limerick Queen, had great fun earlier today tweeting with Pish and you--The Almighty Scepter Wielding Limerick King of the Blogosphere! :D

Now go forth and comment. You’ll feel good interacting and so will the bloggers. :)

    1. Thats a pretty big handle for little old me. :)Thank you so much, All Great and Powerful Limerick Queen! Yes, i am finding that others are as appreciative of having comments as i am. So i WILL go forth and continue to comment. Plus, i am finding that twitter is quite a lot more fun when there is actually someone out there listening to me. I had quite a bit of fun today as well, until my phone died.
